ABOUT THE ARTIST
Elizabeth Maxwell Dewar
The late Elizabeth Maxwell Dewar was born in San Francisco, California in 1941. She began painting early in life because she had to. That was what she was to do. She was a prominent artist and a ntionally recognized authority on the Carousel. Having a deep and abiding love for her home state, Elizabeth has preserved on canvas its elegance, grandeur and dignity. The history and beauty in her art show itself in the rendering of stately old structures, classical Carousel figures and dignified translations of early California. Elizabeth's close attention to detail, bold rich strokes and colors, preserves for all generations the excitement and glory that enlightens the soul of the California inheritance.
This aritist has never lost her childlike enthusiasm for life nor her passion for fantasy. Over the years Elizabeth placed heavy emphasis on preserving the history of the Carousel with her paintings as well as the restoration of the actual antique figures. Becuase of her in-depth research in this field she became a recognized authority.
During the 1980's Elizabeth became recognized as "The Carousel Lady" because of her intense focus and love for the carousel.

Bill Dodge Gallery, Camel, California. America's largest gallery exclusively showing primative and naive paintings by internationally recognized American folk aritists.
Carousel of Carmel, Carmel, California. Carmel's only gallery specializing in the carousel.
Bear Flag Gallery, San Juan Bautista, California. An exciting
showcase of Californias history. Many of Elizabeth's paintings in the gallery were mission
scenes.
SUNRISE PUBLICATIONS, INC., one of the world's largest publishers of greeting cards and calendars several of Elizabeth's primitive artworks for use as greeting card designs.
ANTIQUES in Rancho Cordova, Ca., a large manufacturer of decorator antique restorations, offered several of Elizabeth's prints laminated on beautiful antique milk cans. They were sold from coast to coast.
WILLITS DESIGNS in Pealuma, Ca., used five of Elizabeth's Carousel paintings to decorate elegant lacquered oak music boxes and distributed them worlwide.
THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY SONOMA COUNTY FAIR. Elizabeth was commissioned to create a painting to be used as the anniversary log and official poster for the fair. 1600 posters, 11,000 buttons and 250 walnut plaques carried her painting which was titled, "The Pony at the Fair."
